On Monday, August 1, 2022 the UW Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education (UW CIPE) joined with 17 students in the Health Professions Shadowing Program (HPSP) as well as Molly Reinhard, (the Director of Pre-Professional Advising, Center for Pre-Health and Center for Pre-Law Advising), Emily Faultersack, (Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF); Advisor and Lead for Career Exploration Partnerships with the Center for Pre- Health and Center for Pre-Law Advising), and Nyla Mathis (Pathway Program Assistant with SMPH Academic Affairs).
The Health Professions Shadowing Program is a two week professional development program for UW Madison students interested in healthcare careers and is designed to help increase access, equity, and diversity in healthcare careers. This program is jointly administered by the UW- Madison Center for Pre-Health Advising (CPHA) and the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) Office of Admissions.
During the interactive workshop time that HPSP spent with UW CIPE, students were pushed to think about and learn about the power of health professionals working together as a team to have the best possible patient care to achieve the quadruple aim: better health, better care, better value, and better work experience. This workshop also serves as an introduction to UW CIPE as the students involved aspire to enter a health professional program at UW-Madison; at which time they will be learning with, from, and about fellow health professional students through numerous Interprofessional Practice and Education experiences.
UW CIPE enjoyed getting a chance to meet with this dynamic group of pre-health students and look forward to working with them along their educational path in the years to come!
