This spring, UW CIPE’s Cases of Patients learning series returns with Cases of Patients: Down syndrome (March 10) and Cases of Patients: Addiction Medicine (April 28).
Now in its third year, UW CIPE’s Cases of Patients series invites health profession students hailing from various disciplines to hear from individuals with lived experience of complex and often-misunderstood health conditions. These active learning experiences equip learners with greater knowledge, empathy, and interprofessional competencies of teamwork and communication.
Information, flyers, and registration links for both events can be found below.
Cases of Patients: Down syndrome will occur on Tuesday, March 10, 4:30-6:30pm, at the Health Sciences Learning Center, room 3110 (ILC). This engaging interprofessional learning opportunity informs students of the Waisman Center Down Syndrome Clinic’s comprehensive team-based approach to care and allows learners to hear directly from two families committed to improving the world for their daughters.
Current UW-Madison students in the Genetic Counseling, Nursing-ABSN & TBSN, Physical Therapy, and Physician Assistant programs should not register individually as they will be automatically enrolled. Other health and social care students (including but not limited to those in the DNP, MD, OTD, PharmD, MPH, MSW, DVM, Nutritional Sciences, and Speech-Language Pathology programs) may register to attend Cases of Patients: Down syndrome by March 2, via the following link: https://bit.ly/IPECASESOFPATIENTS-DS

Cases of Patients: Addiction Medicine will occur on Tuesday, April 28, 5:00-7:00pm, at the Health Sciences Learning Center, room 3110 (ILC). This interprofessional learning event engages health professional students in exploring substance use disorder as a complex, stigmatized condition. Through lived-experience narratives, expert insights, and team-based case discussions, learners build empathy, examine bias and inequities, strengthen collaboration, and develop patient-centered, evidence-informed approaches to addiction care and harm reduction. Learners will also receive Naloxone (NARCAN) training.
